By the beginning of the 6th century, the Gupta empire was reduced to a small kingdom. Constant raids by the Huns played a major role in downfall of the Guptas. Hun chiefs Toramanna and Mihirakula were majors players in India during the 6th century. We also see figures like Narasimha Gupta and Yashodharman pop up in our history during this time, who played major roles in shaping India at that time.
This video series is mainly aimed to showcase the political nature of whole India after the age of Guptas. It will cover both North and South India, while also touching bases on other important kingdoms all over the Indian subcontinent which had a major influenced in shaping the subcontinent. We will cover the empires of Harsha, Chalukya dynasty and the Pallavas.
From the break-up of the Gupta empire up to the accession of Harsha in 606 CE the political history of India is that of a period of transition unrealized either by great names or by great events. Much of the history about this time comes from contempory sources - namely, the court Poet Banabhatta and the Chinese scholar Hiuen Tsang.
