A Japanese restaurant across from the Enmore Theatre in Newtown caught fire around 7:40pm, prompting local resident Paul Pickett to climb onto the roof with a fire extinguisher to tackle the flames before emergency services arrived. Fire and Rescue NSW attended with six trucks and brought the blaze under control within six minutes, with no injuries reported. The cause of the fire remains unknown but is not considered suspicious at this stage.
