Yep, I finally did it. I Played a different first move than my beloved 1. e4 for the first time in my competitive over-the-board chess career.

But why?

18 years I have been loyal to 1. e4, but my opponent had 0 games in the database as a 1950 elo.

So, given I was at a disadvantage of information - I decided to level the playing field by playing a first move he could have never prepared for.

Hence, I opened my contract to myself to stay loyal to 1. e4, blew the dust off, and gave myself the go-ahead to try something new 20 years after discovering this beautiful game.
