Ingredients:
Black masoor dal – 1 cup
Onion – 1 finely chopped
Tomato – 1 finely chopped
Ginger-garlic paste – 1 tsp
Green chili – 1 chopped
Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
Red chili powder – ½ tsp
Coriander powder – 1 tsp
garlic dry masala -1tsp
Salt – to taste
Oil or ghee – 1 tbsp
Cumin seeds – ½ tsp
Asafoetida (hing) – a pinch
Fresh coriander – for garnish
Method:
Wash the dal:
Rinse the black masoor dal 2–3 times. You can soak it for 15 minutes for quicker cooking.
Boil the dal:
Add dal to a pressure cooker with turmeric, salt, and 2 cups water. Cook for 2–3 whistles until soft.
Prepare the tempering:
Heat oil or ghee in a pan.
Add cumin seeds and a pinch of hing.
Cook the masala:
Add chopped onions and sauté till golden.
Add ginger-garlic paste and green chili.
Then add tomatoes, red chili powder, and coriander powder. Cook until the oil separates.
Mix the dal:
Add the boiled dal to the pan and mix well.
Adjust water as per desired consistency and simmer for 3–4 minutes.
Garnish & serve:
Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
Serve hot with roti, rice, or jeera rice.
