Took 3 Mausers to the range today. Started out shooting the Chinese Mauser. Tried some ППУ 1983 headstamped ammo first. It appeared to be shooting very high. I am not sure of bullet weight, I didn't pull any, but I imagine it is probably 196 gr. or somewhere nearabouts. I then tried the Yugo 12/54 headstamped milsurp, and that shot better out of it. That is 196 gr. stuff, and for being so old, shoots quite accurately as my German K98 demonstrated.
It was very odd that the K98 shot both types of 8mm ammo, and was spot on at that distance. Having a near perfect bore might also help that situation out as well. Started with the ППУ ammo 5 rds, then the 12/54 Yugo for 5 rds. 10 hits in a row. That's definitely the go to gun.
And the Turk Mauser. Started shooting ППУ ammo out of it, and then moved to the Turk surplus from 1944. That stuff still shoots pretty well. It's tailored to the Turk Mauser. I shot some of it out of my K98 once, and it shot high.
