When salvage captain Lyra Thorne agreed to investigate a sealed Imperial planet, she thought it would be just another lucrative job. Dr. Thaniel Corvus had spent five years researching Kethara-VII—a world the Hegemonic Empire had quarantined for five centuries, spending vast resources to keep everyone away from what should have been a dead world.

What they discovered was far worse than anyone could have imagined.

The massive necropolis stretching across an entire continent wasn't just a burial site. It was a prison. Millions of people locked in suspended animation, caught between life and death, waiting for five hundred years for a mercy killing that never came.

They were infected with Perpetual Syndrome—a biological anomaly that made them immortal. Their bodies would regenerate from any injury, heal from any trauma, and refuse to die no matter what was done to them. But the human mind was never meant for immortality. After decades, their memories degraded, their personalities dissolved, until nothing remained but bodies that couldn't die housing minds that had already shattered.

The Empire couldn't kill them. Couldn't end their suffering. So they sealed them away and tried to forget.

But now the preservation systems are failing. The infected are waking up. And Lyra's team has to make an impossible choice: walk away and let millions of tortured souls continue their endless nightmare, or grant them the mercy the Empire never could.
