Antiviral medicines are a class of medication used specifically to treat viral infections. Much like antibiotics will not work on anything other than bacteria, antivirals will not treat infections from anything other than viruses.
Viral infections come from when a viral body, or a virus, enters the body through a break in the skin or orifice. Viruses are dormant and therefore harmless when they are outside of a human or animal body. However, once they enter the body they ‘wake up’ and cause illness.
