ADI trainee instructor licence
If you want to use a trainee licence before taking your third and final test, you must have at least 40 hours part three training with a qualified instructor, or ordit trainer.
The trainee licence helps you get real world experience teaching learners to drive. This is useful because you are under supervision from your ADI trainer who can help you develop your skills and confidence in the early stages of teaching students.
When you take your part three test, you will be required to give a client centred driving lesson with a learner or full licence holder while the senior driving examiner observes the lesson from the rear seat of your training vehicle.
You’re not required to use a trainee licence, because if you have friend or family member who you can practice with, you can get some experience of teaching before taking the part three test. But there’s no better experience than teaching someone you don’t know.
A trainee instructor licence is valid for six months, and you can charge people for driving lessons, therefore subsidising your training.
