Navy Plaque War - The Cubi Officer's Club

Описание: For nearly forty years United States Navy pilots making port calls in the Philippines at Subic Bay Naval Base and Cubi Point Naval Air Station decorated the walls of the officer's club at Cubi Point with an astounding array of outrageous commemorative plaques. Naval Aviators of multiple generations from aircraft carriers with names like Enterprise, Constellation, Ranger, Independence, Midway, and Kitty Hawk, among others, waged a good-natured war of outdoing each other with larger and more ornate plaques that festooned the bar's walls.

This went on for decades as the plaques got more and more outrageous. And there was a volcano involved. And a typhoon. And then the whole bar got moved to Pensacola, Florida. It's a great story. Really! But you really need to hear the story to understand.
