Learning how to get testimonials is important for any coach or consultant because new clients are going to want to see coaching testimonials that prove your ability to serve them. In this video, I share four simple steps for getting those testimonials.

The first step is to offer free pre-defined work. The point is for someone to be able to say that you helped them and to verify what happened. That means it doesn't have to come from a paid client. One thing you can do is to simply ask people you've already helped to share testimonials.

The second step is to make sure you ask for coaching testimonials from your clients. As simple as this sounds, many new coaches balk at this. Overall, people are very happy to write a testimonial for you. Just be clear and confident about the “ask.”

Another important part of learning how to get testimonials is to make it easy for clients to follow through. After all, they might feel intimidated. However, you can send them a list of questions to make it easier.

For example, “What was it like working together?” “What results did you get?”

Another format is to ask someone to have a recorded conversation on video. This will only take them about 5-10 minutes.

The fourth step is to focus on results. What was their problem like before, and what was it like after? Whether your services are intangible or tangible, there's a result that people can speak to.
