Good morning and welcome to today’s Morning News update.
A civil society organization has reported a major incident involving civilian casualties in Kyaukkyi Township, located in Nyaunglebin District of Bago Region. According to a statement released by Karen Peace Support Network, approximately 30 civilians were allegedly killed in a mass killing incident, while more than 160 local villagers were reportedly detained.

The organization stated that the events took place in Kyaukkyi Township, an area that has experienced repeated clashes amid the ongoing armed conflict in Myanmar. Independent verification of the reported casualties and arrests remains limited due to restricted access to the region.
Meanwhile, in Rakhine State, tensions have reportedly increased near the state capital Sittwe as military authorities issued warnings to government employees under their administration. According to local sources, officials were reportedly instructed not to purchase airline tickets or travel back to their hometowns without official permission.
The warning reportedly came at a time when the security situation around Sittwe has been described as increasingly tense. Observers say such restrictions may reflect concerns about possible instability or sudden changes in security conditions.
In another development, fighting has intensified along the Ann–Padaung road corridor in the Padaung military area of Magway Region. Military sources reported heavy clashes near the Nat Yae Kan mountain range.
Following the loss of several defensive positions, including the Kyet Khin Kone security outpost, reports indicate that nearby villages have been subjected to continued artillery shelling and aerial attacks. The situation has reportedly led to growing concerns among local residents about civilian safety and displacement.
