🐘 MYSURU DASARA GAJAPAYANA 2026 🐘
✨ The countdown to the world-famous Mysuru Dasara 2026 has officially begun!

The traditional Gajapayana, the ceremonial journey of the Dasara elephant squad from the forest camps towards Mysuru, was held on August 26, 2026, at Veeranahosahalli near Nagarahole Tiger Reserve in Hunsur taluk.

With traditional prayers and rituals, the first batch of Dasara elephants began their journey towards Mysuru, marking an important milestone in the preparations for Karnataka's famous Nada Habba – Mysuru Dasara.

🐘 FIRST BATCH OF DASARA ELEPHANTS – 2026

The first batch consists of nine elephants:

• Dhananjaya
• Mahendra
• Ekalavya
• Prashanth
• Gopi
• Srirama
• Sugriva
• Lakshmi
• Kaveri

These elephants have been brought from different elephant camps and will undergo training, rehearsals, care and preparation for their important role in the Dasara festivities.

🌿 FROM FOREST TO MYSURU

The Gajapayana begins at Veeranahosahalli, near the Nagarahole Tiger Reserve. After their journey to Mysuru, the elephants will stay temporarily at Aranya Bhavan in Ashokapuram before their traditional entry into the Mysuru Palace.

🏰 MYSURU PALACE ENTRY – AUGUST 28, 2026

After their stay at Aranya Bhavan, the elephant squad is scheduled to enter the Mysuru Palace premises on August 28, 2026, in a traditional ceremonial welcome.

The elephants will then remain in the palace premises during the Dasara preparations, where they will receive special care, nutrition, weight monitoring and training for the grand procession.

👑 THE ROAD TO JUMBOO SAVARI

The Gajapayana is much more than an elephant journey. It marks the beginning of the final preparations for one of India's most spectacular cultural celebrations.

The elephants will undergo extensive training and rehearsals before participating in the iconic Jumboo Savari, the grand Vijayadashami procession through Mysuru.

The elephant that will carry the Golden Howdah (Ambari) for the 2026 procession has not yet been finally decided and will be determined after evaluating the elephants during training and rehearsals.

🙏 A SPECIAL MOMENT – CAPTAIN ABHIMANYU

The 2026 Gajapayana also marked an emotional moment as Captain Abhimanyu, who had been an important part of Mysuru Dasara for many years, was given a respectful farewell.

Abhimanyu had carried the Golden Howdah multiple times and had also served in difficult elephant-control and wildlife operations. His contribution to the Dasara tradition will remain an important part of Mysuru's history.
