Right, so there we were—hurtling through the Everglades in what can only be described as a glorified bathtub with an engine. Birds everywhere. At least seven alligators (or possibly the same one just following us around). Not bad at all.
Now, if you’re going to do this, I’d strongly suggest a private tour. Why? Because this one had a roof. And if you find yourself wedged in the middle seat, congratulations—you’ve paid good money to stare at the back of someone’s head instead of, you know, actual wildlife.
That said, our captain was a proper legend. Navigated the mangroves like he was born in them, skimmed through the grassy bits like an Everglades rally driver, and dished out some cracking facts along the way. All in all, a solid day out. Just book the open-top version, unless you fancy a tour of other passengers’ shoulders.
