Just an update. Still on a 7.5 GTI since original MK7 was written off by white van man in Portugal just when the car was perfect. Now 3.5 years old and 22k on the car and no rattles after the replacement of the rear shocks on first purchase due to a rattle as per the original MK7GTI. If you have the rattle and VW keep telling you there is no problem then just fit Bilstein B4 or Koni Actives and you will be happy again. I can confirm that even on a 2019 model I am receiving emails from owners complaining of the rattle - amazing, well not really!
Volkswagen UK - Wake up to reality and accept the fact that have not sorted the issue even in the newer model!
The VW Golf MK7 rear shock absorber noise was a well known source of irritation to many Golf MK7 owners. On my original GTI and after 11 months of suffering this irritation with 4 sets of the VW rubbish in a total of 7000 miles I fitted Bilstein B4 OEM replacements and they did not make any noise. Just listen to how the VW Sachs shock absorber rattles when hit with the side of my fist compared to the Bilstein. You may detect some noise but that comes from the exhaust heat shield.
You may say that in doing what I show here is not relevant to what happens on the road but in my opinion it does.
If you have an irritating noise from your rear suspension then do not let Volkswagen tell you that it is a "characteristic of the model". That is a complete load of nonsense and they know it but are afraid to admit to the real truth. Just use a Bilstein B4 OEM replacement as I have done and the difference is like night and day.
The shock absorber issue as far as I see is not relevant on models with torsion beam.
