Jess Timmerman resides in Edmond, Oklahoma with her husband and three children. Inspired by the loss of her altruistic brother, SFC Zachary M. Brown, she dedicates her time to serving military, veterans, and their families with an open heart. She has carried his legacy, nationally speaking at AAS23 about creative ways the military can innovate regarding mental health and locally by producing the Veterans Day 5K-Mitch Park.

More about Zachary:

SFC Zachary Morgan Brown started his military service in 2007 after leaving the University of Colorado, Boulder. He was a proud Infantry Mortarmen. The military sent him to Fort Benning, Fort Lewis, Iraq, Fort Stewart, Afghanistan, Fort Campbell and finally JMRC Hohenfels where he passed in 2022. Soldiers under Zach attribute his great leadership to him caring so much about those close to him. Passing by suicide is not Zach's story, service to others is!


Details for this year’s 5k:

What better way to express gratitude to ALL that have served with sacrifice and duty than lacing up your sneakers to walk and run Mitch Park? We also honor Zach Brown’s life and legacy as well as the many others we’ve lost to suicide. Completing the course on the Saturday before Veterans Day shows our active-duty military, veterans, etc. and their families that we support them and whatever silent struggles they may be enduring.

This year’s proceeds will benefit The Hugs Project OKC a 501c3 (EIN 35-2249092) who weekly ships a hug (or care package) to American servicemen and women in highly combative areas, such as Bulgaria, Iraq, Poland, and Honduras. Jess couldn’t do this run without her helpful community sponsors like Ben Tubbs of the VA Home Team OKC.
