A massive fraud has rocked Bengaluru’s Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation Staff Cooperative Society, a scam worth Rs 70 crore! Yes, you heard that right, funds meant for employees and retirees have allegedly been misused, and the investigation is now heating up. The Cubbon Park Police conducted surprise searches at multiple locations across the city, including Rajarajeshwarinagar, JP Nagar, and Anjanapura. Houses of top society officials like CEO G. Gopinath, Lakshmi R, wife of former accountant B.L. Jagadish, and other accused were searched early Wednesday morning. During the raids, police seized gold ornaments, luxury cars, two wheelers, cash, and property documents. A detailed mahazar was also carried out at the cooperative society’s office on Raja Ram Mohan Roy Road, near Richmond Circle. The complaint that triggered this investigation was filed by C.J. Muralidhar, the society’s president and section supervisor. He alleged that around 300 employees and retired staff lost their hard earned savings to this scam! So far, CEO Gopinath and Lakshmi have been arrested, and sources say the case may soon be handed over to the CID for deeper investigation.
