Russia's ongoing war in Ukraine continues to drag down the rouble. The currency has dropped to a 16-month low, breaching the psychologically important level of 100 against the dollar. The rouble has weakened nearly 40% this year amid Western sanctions, falling revenue from oil and gas exports and higher military spending. But, President Vladimir Putin's economic adviser has rebuked the central bank, blaming the bank's loose monetary policy for the slump in the currency.
