Clarence Fok’s The Iceman Cometh is one of Hong Kong cinema’s wildest blends of fantasy, action, and fish-out-of-water comedy. Yuen Biao stars as a Ming dynasty warrior, a Ming Dynasty royal guard given 20 days by the emperor to capture the vicious rapist-murderer Feng San, who has killed thirteen women, including the emperor's cousin, before both men tumble into a glacier and are frozen for three centuries. Both are thawed out by scientists three centuries later in 1980s Hong Kong, where ancient martial codes collide with neon streets, gangsters, and modern chaos. The film shifts gears constantly, with wuxia swordplay, brutal fights, broad comedy, and even moments of shocking violence.
