Hiking and camping.....Crystal Lake to Heaton Flats

Alan and I left one car at the East Fork parking lot and then took a second car to Crystal Lake(5000' elevation) and started our trek. We stopped at Windy Gap and ate a quick lunch at Little Jimmy campground and started on the Pacific Crest Trail to summit Baden Powell(9399' elevation). Freezing cold and biting wind made this portion of the trek difficult and demanding. Descending 41 switchbacks to Vincent Gap we fell short of our goal of reaching Mine Gulch camp and instead opted to camp at Tom Vincent's old cabin with nightfall at our heels. We spent a cold night at the cabin, but got the needed rest and calories to finish the trek. Next morning we descended Vincent Gulch and hit Mine Gulch Camp.....ate lunch and fertilized an apple tree. Hiking on partial trail and old river bed made for a slow and tiring walk. Reaching Fish Fork next was a great milestone and motivator, because the end was within reach. And now, Iron Fork was only 3 miles further, the Bridge was 2-2.5 miles after that, and the East Fork parking lot was 4.5 miles after the Bridge. The end was near. We started the 2nd day hike at 9am and finished a little before 7pm, I was tired and sore, but felt great for finishing. It was great experience!! I just want to thank Alan for letting me join him on this trek.
