How to Build a Chicken Coop — Plant One On Me — Ep 068

Описание: If you’ve been following along for the past year on my Instagram @homesteadbrooklyn, you’ll know that I had begun fostering a little Rhode Island red hen called Kippetje (Kippee for short). Though I grew up with chickens, I had no idea that she would get so imprinted on me, thus me having to take her everywhere!

I had been looking for a place to build a chicken coop to make it easier on both of us. I appealed to my Community Garden, but some members didn’t seem so enthused, so a member of GreenThumbNYC tipped me off to another coop just a block away from the garden—at Los Sures, a senior citizen service center. The current coop was in much needed repair, so we started a community fundraiser to rebuild a new and improved coop, in the hopes that Kippee could have a new home close by!

This is our documentation of the process—from gathering the community together to building out the coop to building the nest boxes to spreading out the Sani-Care animal bedding by the Espoma Company, which they so graciously donated for the chicks and sponsored the making of this video.
