Описание: Summer – III. Presto is the final movement of “Summer” from The Four Seasons by Antonio Vivaldi (1678–1741), part of his 1725 collection The Contest Between Harmony and Invention, Op. 8. Each concerto in this set is accompanied by a sonnet, and this movement vividly portrays a violent summer storm that arrives without warning.

In this third movement, Presto, we hear the fierce storm of late summer come crashing down. Thunder splits the sky, lightning flashes, and heavy winds and rain pound the earth. The farmers tremble in fear, powerless in the face of nature’s fury.
The movement opens with explosive energy — the piano carves out the sound of the storm with sharp rhythms and tremulous textures. Over this, the solo violin traces swirling, rapidly shifting lines that mimic lightning strikes and gusts of wind. Virtuosic passages highlight the chaos and unrest of the storm, with tension sustained throughout. The key of G minor, with its dramatic weight, underscores the terror and power of nature, while brief moments of calm are swiftly overtaken by violence. The movement ends as it began — in the relentless grip of the storm. Through this music, Vivaldi vividly expresses not only the force of nature but also the deeply human emotions of fear and prayer in the face of it.

Though short, this movement demands both technical precision and vivid storytelling. It’s not just a fast piece — it’s a sonic drama that captures the overwhelming might of nature and our fragile place within it.
Each time I return to this piece, it feels as though I’m being thrown into the very heart of the storm. Through this performance, I hope to share with you the intensity, awe, and human vulnerability that Vivaldi so powerfully evokes.
