After meeting with Canada’s 13 provincial and territorial premiers in Saskatoon on Tuesday, Prime Minister Mark Carney said going forward, decarbonizing national oil and gas production has “potential” and would be in Canada’s “best interest.”
Monday’s meeting saw the leaders agree to accelerate several “nation-building” projects, and while a new pipeline was a priority for several premiers, a list of the selected projects was not revealed to the public.
Speaking to reporters, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith said that she was encouraged by the Liberal government’s change of tone about becoming an “energy superpower.”
Smith also said that any federal priority list that does not include new pipelines would send a bad message to her province, adding that she’s willing to give this process a chance.
