Vintage 1969 MCM "Forma 70" Stereo Console by Andre Morin for Radio Corporation of America (RCA), became a style icon in Canada during the 1970’s but was not exported to the USA.
Young designer André Morin proposed a series of modern space age stereos to the executives at RCA as an alternative to the heavy Rococo or Colonial Spanish consoles of the era. The executives, not wanting to tread on marketing, suggested he speak with a retailer and see if consumers would want them.
He approached Eaton’s, one of RCA’s major clients, asking to set up a small display featuring several of the new modern designed sound systems. The store agreed on a trial period. After the trial André Morin contacted Eaton’s about the consumer test. Eaton’s answered his question with an immediate order for 1,000 units. Forma series became RCA Canada’s best-selling line in the company’s history.
