Exploring William Shakespeare's "The Tempest" | Summary, Analysis, and Key Themes

The Tempest by William Shakespeare tells the story of Prospero, the rightful Duke of Milan, who lives on an island with his daughter Miranda after being betrayed by his brother Antonio. Using magic, Prospero raises a storm to bring his enemies to the island. There, he teaches them a lesson, forgives their wrongs, and regains his dukedom. Meanwhile, Miranda falls in love with Ferdinand, the prince of Naples. In the end, Prospero gives up magic, frees his spirit Ariel, and returns home, bringing peace and forgiveness to all.
