Located inside the Karnala Bird Sanctuary near Panvel, this historic hill fort is famous for its unique pinnacle structure, lush greenery, rich biodiversity, and breathtaking views of the Sahyadri range.

📜 Brief History of Karnala Fort
Karnala Fort was built around the 13th century and later came under the rule of the Yadavas, Mughals, Portuguese, and Marathas. Due to its strategic location on the ancient trade route between Konkan and the Deccan plateau, the fort played an important role in regional defense. Today, its iconic pinnacle and fort remains stand as a reminder of its glorious past.

Trek Difficulty: Easy to Moderate
Trek Duration: 1.5 – 2 hours (one way)
Altitude: Approx. 1,500 ft
Base Location: Karnala Bird Sanctuary, Panvel
Best Time to Visit: June to February (Monsoon & Winter)
🚆 How to Reach Karnala Fort from Mumbai (By Public Transport)
Take a local train to Panvel Railway Station (Harbour/Central Line).
From Panvel, take an ST bus or auto-rickshaw towards Alibaug/ Pen / Roha.
Get down at Karnala Bird Sanctuary Gate on Mumbai–Goa Highway (NH66).
From the gate, enter the sanctuary and start the trek towards the fort.
🚆 How to Reach Karnala Fort from Pune (By Public Transport)
Take a train or bus from Pune to Panvel.
From Panvel, follow the same route via ST bus or auto to Karnala Sanctuary.
OR
You can take a direct bus/train from Pune to Panvel for better connectivity.
🚗 How to Reach Karnala Fort by Private Vehicle (Mumbai & Pune)
From Mumbai:
Drive via Sion–Panvel Expressway → NH66 (Mumbai–Goa Highway)
Reach Karnala Bird Sanctuary Gate
Parking is available near the entrance
From Pune:
Drive via Mumbai–Pune Expressway → Panvel → NH66
Follow signs for Karnala Bird Sanctuary
