I spent eight weeks working at a husky farm near the Arctic Circle, caring for 38 dogs in temperatures down to −30°C / −22°F — and daily life was far from easy.
Every day revolved around the dogs, the cold, and the work that had to be done no matter the weather. From sledding trips through untouched snow and trail lunches by the fire to snowmobiling frozen terrain and chopping wood just to stay warm, this wasn’t an easy experience, but it was a deeply rewarding one.
🐾 Dog sledding is an absolute bucket-list experience but it’s crucial to choose the right place.
There are unfortunately many unethical operations out there. I stayed with Yellow Snow Husky Tours in the north of Sweden and couldn’t recommend them highly enough. The dogs get constant love and attention, daily playtime, personalized diets, proper rest days, and individual care. Some of them even sleep inside with the humans (if they’re the kind of dog that enjoys it!). The focus here is always on the dogs’ wellbeing first, and that made all the difference.

🌍 I’ll keep sharing more stories from life outdoors — from hiking and wild camping to dog sledding and other hard, beautiful adventures — so if that’s your thing, stick around!
💬 Could you do this kind of life?
