Pakistan often finds it nearly impossible to get along with whichever country it shares a border with. The Taliban were reminded of this yet again recently. On February 22, 2026, Pakistan carried out airstrikes in Afghanistan’s border regions. Pakistan claimed the strikes targeted terrorist groups such as the TTP and IS-K. However, Afghanistan revealed that children and civilians were actually killed in these attacks. The Taliban government has made it clear that Pakistan will now face a strong response.

Meanwhile, what exactly does Trump—who has been tightening pressure on Iran—want? He is certainly intimidating, but what will he actually do? Another deal? Or something like what happened with Venezuela?
