Visual Comparison of Phillips Screwdriver and JIS Screwdriver, the Japanese Industrial Standard. The Phillips Screwdriver and the JIS Screwdriver have different designs for the tips of their screwdrivers. That is why the Japanese Industrial Standard, or JIS screwdriver will out preform the Phillips screwdriver.
To purchase JIS screwdrivers swing by the website, where we sell Vessel. Vessel is the oldest Japanese tool company and founded in 1916 - 20 years before the Phillips came along.

Hi and welcome to this segment of RRR Tool Solutions tool demonstration videos.
Today we are going to talk about screwdriver comparisons. We are going to in particular talk about and demonstrate the difference between JIS and the Phillips screwdriver. Not knocking any brand or type of tool, we just want to show you comparative differences in the performances of those screwdrivers
I am going to explain the machine. This is a spring loaded parallel arm. And what it does is basically provide resistant for these two arms. This is a stabilizer, this lets me take and put a side pressure of torque on the shaft of the screwdriver. So I can in act force on the screw itself.
This is a parallel arm. This is a nylon bearing bushing. And what we will do on each screwdriver, we will set this down on top of the handle. And allow it to apply down force.
Lets start off first with our first competitors screwdriver. And you can see kind of how this is done. I am going to raise this yoke. Just to the point were we can get as close to the handle as possible. I want this side turning force of this handle to be supported by this yoke, as best I can. That way I am providing twist that will be transferred down to the screw.
I am going to put this weight on top of the handle. Again this is a nylon bearing, it has no resistant on it. We'll do this until parallel as long as these arms are parallel we insure ourselves that the weight is actually pushing straight down on the driver.
I'll hold the machine, I'll reset it to zero. And this is a Phillips screwdriver in a phillips screw. And what you see there is that the screw tip the screwdriver tip, actually cammed out and went over and back down.
We'll try to do that again in slow-motion. Reset the machine, and again no down force, just pulling to the side.
Let me replace that with a Vessel JIS driver. Do the same thing, I am going to insert that into the screw. I am going to move the yoke down so that all the force is applied to the screw head.
I'll put our weight in parallel, our parallel arm. We will do the same thing. Let's reset our machine.
As you see here the JIS, Vessel driver, has pegged the machine. It's gone to the design limits of it.
Demonstration again, simply parallel. And again it pegs the machine, to it's designed limits.
