오늘 소개해 드릴 작품은 6부작 칸타타 '송 오브 아리랑'으로 이 작품은 '아리랑'의 유네스코 인류무형문화유산 등재를 기념하고 국립합창단 창단 40주년을 기념하기 위해 위촉받아 임준희 작곡, 탁계석 대본으로 2013년 5월 9일 예술의 전당에서 초연된 곡입니다.
초연 때의 타이틀은 “송 오브 아리랑~” “세계인이여! 아리랑을 노래하자~” 였는데 이상훈 지휘, 소프라노 김영미, 판소리 안숙선등의 독창자와 코리안 심포니 오케스트라, 국악앙상블과 국립합창단과 274인의 국민합창단이 더해져서 약 400여명이 출연했던 대규모 공연으로 큰 호응을 받았던 곡입니다.

이 작품은 모두 6부로 구성된 2시간가량의 성악과 오케스트라가 어우러진 칸타티로 '서곡-송 오브 아리랑'(1부)을 시작으로 2부는 '아리 아라리'(삶의 노래-정선아리랑, 강원도 아리랑), 3부는 '밀양아리랑'(興(흥)의 노래), 4부는 '진도아리랑'(恨(한)의 노래), 5부는 '해외 아리랑'(우리의 노래), 6부는 '송 오브 아리랑'(미래의 노래)로 구성되어 우리나라에 산재해 있는 모든 아리랑을 집대성하여 이를 예술적으로 승화하고자 했습니다.

이번 유튜브에서 소개해 드리는 동영상은 칸타타 '송 오브 아리랑'의 제 6부 '송 오브 아리랑' 부분으로 스페인 밀레니움 합창단이 2013년 12월 30일 임재식의 지휘로 스페인 마드리드 모뉴멘탈 극장에서 공연한 실황 동영상입니다.

아리랑 고개는 극복과 치유의 고개입니다.
아리랑 가사에 나타나는 아리랑 고개는 우리의 어머니, 아버지들의 삶 속에서 겪었을 수많은 고초와 고난이었던 것이고 이러한 노래 속에 담긴 고난의 극복과 치유의 메시지는 지금 이 시대 우리들에게도 똑같이 절실하기에 이 작품을 통해 이러한 메시지를 전달할 수 있기를 바랍니다.

The cantata 'Song of Arirang' was commissioned to commemorate the listing of 'Arirang' as an UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity and the 40th anniversary of the founding of the National Chorus of Korea. Gye-seok Tak wrote the script and June-Hee Lim composed the music, and it was premiered at the Seoul Arts Center on May 9, 2013.
The title of the premiere was “Song of Arirang~” “People of the world! “Let’s sing a song of Arirang~” conducted by Sang-hoon Lee, sung by soprano Young-mi Kim, and pansori singer Sook-seon Ahn.
It was a unprecedented large-scale performance with about 400 people performing, including the Korean National Symphony Orchestra, Korean Traditional Music Ensemble, the Natioanl Chorus of Korea, and 274-member civic choir, and it received a great response.


This work was composed as a six-part cantata with chorus and orchestra lasting about two hours. Starting with 'Overture-Song of Arirang' (Part 1), Part 2 is 'Ari Arari' (Song of Life-Jeongseon Arirang, Gangwon-do Arirang), Part 3 is 'Miryang Arirang' (Song of Excitement), Part 4 is 'Jindo Arirang' (Song of Sorrow), part 5 is 'Overseas Arirang' (our song), and part 6 is 'Song of Arirang' (Future). It is a compilation of all Arirangs scattered in Korea and aims to sublimate them artistically.
