Salar de Uyuni is the largest salt flat in the world, over 10,000 square kilometers in area and containing 10 billion tons of salt! The nearby Reserva Nacional de Fauna Andina Eduardo Abaroa is home to a number of multicolored lagunas and three different species of flamingos. The high-altitude Andean desert landscape is dotted with the active volcanoes of the Lipez Range. The highest of these is Uturuncu, which lies fuming at 6,008 meters above sea level.
David and I visited this spectacular area of Bolivia over a long weekend, experiencing vast and serene landscapes, things that seem like they are from a different planet, an old mining road that goes up to 5,900 meters above sea level, and the summit of an active (and fuming!) volcano. This video showcases many of the moods we experienced throughout the weekend, from humorous, to tranquil, to adventurous.
Thanks to David for providing around half of the footage in this video!
