Is It Okay To Eat The Same Food Everyday? (When Dieting To Get Ripped)

Описание: In this video I decided to dive into the topic of eating the same meals or the same foods within a day or week when dieting to get ripped.

I'm pretty sure you watching this video and reading this have your favorite meals and foods.

I know I personally do. And if I just had to eat those meals for the next few months I would be completely fine with that.

However we have to ask ourselves "Would this be a problem?"

Does eating the same meals and foods every day cause some kind of issues?

The answer of course would be "It depends." so let's create a bit of context.

1 - Certain "gurus" out there will claim that we could develop allergies through consuming the same foods (often used example is eggs). I haven't ever met anyone who has done this or seen any randomized controlled trial with this outcome.

Now, looking at logical reasoning would this make any sense from an evolutionary stand-point?

Have we evolved to eat foods from 5 different continents, or to have so much access to incredible food variety in our supermarkets?

I'm sure we can all agree that this is not the case. Our ancestors most likely ate very similar foods on a day to day basis. They didn't have access to Whole Foods after all :).

Another interesting observation is that if we look at the longest living people in the world and the people who can take care of themselves even at the age of 90-100 (bluezones) their diets are pretty monotonous.

And these people are very functional, rarely suffer from dementia, strokes and heart disease.

In the western world if you see a typical 60 or a 70 year old they can barely move and they're often taking 15 difference types of medications to deal with all the illnesses.

On the other hand in Okinawa you'd probably be able to meet a 90y old carrying groceries back home.

And these bluezones people eat the same things every day: fatty fish, sweet potato, fermented soy products.

They don't rely on big supermarkets, and of course there's no magic in these foods. Simply looking at the variety their diets don't have much of it.

2 - A lot of marketers in the fitness industry will take a very extreme approach to food variety. And some of this type of advice even comes from highly educated dietitians.

The approach is "The more variety the better the diet."

And you might see meal plans that have 8 different sources of protein and dozens of combinations.

Taking flexibility and variety to an extreme would most likely paralyze most people. There's just too much choice, too much decision.

You'd be living to eat and figuring out your next meal.

There's a case for variety, but not so much variety that it makes the plan miserable and unsustainable.

So looking at the psychology of it there's a solid argument for less decisions.

i.e. Preparing the same breakfast every day allows you to get your day started faster and you preserve mental energy.

Often you'll see guys like Mark Zuckerberg, Obama etc.. wear the same clothes. They save the decision making power for important things.

So how much variety is needed?

It's really about finding a balance and as anything in fitness this also depends on your personal preference.

You certainly want to include things like fish, dairy, range of veggies, fruits, different meats throughout the week.

Trying to design a "perfect day" is probably not sustainable for most people but if we look at it from a week to week basis it gets manageable.

The goal of variety would be to ensure adequate micro-nutrient content of the diet as well as to enhance adherence.

Most people will enjoy some variety, but again if you take it to any extreme it's probably not gonna be very healthy and/or sustainable.

So if the only vegetable you get is spinach or a tomato 5 times a day that could be an issue looking at the long term.

However if you're spending hours on getting 20-30 different types of foods across the day that's probably going to be very unsustainable.

Balance is key.
