Описание: “Songo” explores Cuban music influenced by West African musical tradition and instruments. “Songo” is a style, like Samba or Meregue, in 4/4 time, and is pronounced “SOHN-go”. As in Instrumentals 6, the Djembe and Dundun drums start out in the Songo style with a 2-3 Clave beat at 140 BPM, but soon ramp-up to the more typical 200 BPM of Djembe rhythms. All of the dozen Djembe/Dundun phrases are traceable to contemporary West African forms, shifting meter to the more common 6/8. For the reprise, the work shifts back again to 4/4 as the rhythm decelerates for the tonal instruments: trumpet, trombone, and guitars. The score uses an adaptation of the Djembe font, and includes the sounds of two Djembe drums and a Dundun comp with cowbell.
