​Why We Celebrate Holika Dahan
​Holika Dahan, also known as Chhoti Holi, is the sacred ritual of lighting a bonfire a night before the festival of colors. It serves as a powerful reminder that faith can overcome any fear and that truth eventually triumphs over falsehood.
​The History (The Legend of Prahlad)
​The story dates back to the demon king Hiranyakashipu, who demanded everyone worship him as God. However, his son Prahlad remained a devoted follower of Lord Vishnu. Angry at this "disobedience," the King asked his sister Holika—who had a divine shawl that made her immune to fire—to sit in a blazing fire with Prahlad on her lap.
​As the flames rose, a miracle happened: the shawl flew off Holika and covered Prahlad. Holika was burned to ashes, while Prahlad emerged untouched. This is why we light the bonfire—to burn away our ego and negativity, just as Holika's pride was destroyed.
