Altered Perception: Vision is a virtual reality experience that allows users to step into the perceptual world of people living with visual impairments.
Through immersive first-person interaction, the project simulates four major eye conditions—myopia, hyperopia, glaucoma, and age-related macular degeneration (AMD)—within a realistic indoor environment.
Instead of presenting visual impairment as a simple blur or filter, the experience integrates these conditions directly into gameplay and interaction. Users must perform everyday actions such as reading eye charts, picking up objects, and navigating space, while their visual perception is dynamically altered. This transforms visual impairment from a visual effect into a lived, embodied challenge.
The project aims to challenge common cognitive biases about blindness and foster empathy by letting players feel how vision loss affects daily life. By recreating distorted vision, blind spots, and blurred perception in familiar spaces, Altered Perception: Vision invites players to rethink accessibility, design, and social responsibility through interactive experience.
