FIA Group A touring car racing swept the world in the 1980s. It arrived in New Zealand in 1984, where, in an effort to promote healthy grid numbers as it transitioned, the fourth-generation Ford Falcon was granted permission to compete, despite not being homologated for Group A. There were three ‘Blackwood’ Falcons that contested Group A in New Zealand, and they were raced by Dick Johnson, Gary Sprague, Leo Leonard, and 1986 Australian Touring Car Champion Robbie Francevic. Of the three, only one is known to survive; this car, which was raced by Francevic. And its been owned by the same enthusiast for 40 years! This is the amazing story of this great survivor, and of the fourth-gen Falcons unique Kiwi racing history.
