AWAACC President & CEO/Artistic Director Janis Burley joins America’s Black Forum to discuss how the Center honors August Wilson’s legacy while advancing Black arts, culture, and education in Pittsburgh and beyond.
In this segment, Pittsburgh Strong: The August Wilson African American Cultural Center, Burley shares AWAACC’s role as a cultural hub for art, storytelling, and community exchange rooted in the African American experience and the African diaspora. She highlights major programs including The Writer’s Landscape, the Pittsburgh International Jazz Festival, and the Black Bottom Film Festival—all offered with free gallery access.
Burley also spotlights AWAACC’s 10th Grade Arts Ambassador Program with Pittsburgh Public Schools and the Fuel the Future fundraising campaign, a $1.5 million initiative supporting creativity, education, and community impact.
