There are tons of hard sequence problems out there, but I have a good one in this video which is suitable for anyone preparing for Mathcounts, high school math competition, math olympiad problems, math problems for 8th graders, or even math problems for 10th graders.

This particular arithmetic sequence problem involves a clever use of the arithmetic sequence formula and the arithmetic sum formula. There’s a good bit of algebra involved as well. The problem does not require any use of a calculator. So don’t use it. :)

A little backstory to this problem, which inspired the video: One of my students was studying sequences and series (grade 12) over the summer and was looking for hard math questions and stumbled upon this arithmetic sequence and arithmetic series formula example problem. We both agreed this would be one of those tricky math problems that I could turn into a video. BTW - we were able to crack it together in about 20 minutes. Can you beat our time?
