I would like to show you my contribution for this year's ABBUC software competition: A port of WozMon for the Atari 8-Bit computers.
WozMon is a machine language monitor that was written in 1976 by Apple Co-Founder Steve Wozniak for the famous Apple I computer.
Although the program code was part of the Apple user manual and has been around for almost half a century, no one has ported it to the Atari yet. This might have been because Wozniak used a lot of tricks and peculiarities of the Apple I to make everything fit into a mere 256 Bytes.
So I took up the challenge and ported it to the Atari 8-Bit computers, and I think even 50 years later, it is still a very useful tool if you code on real hardware. So let me show you a few things you can do with it:
For this demonstration, WozMon runs as an AUTORUN.SYS which is loaded after booting DOS and before the computer enters BASIC. The actual monitor is stored in page six from address 1536 onwards, and a little menu is stored in page four from address 1024 onwards. The latter section can be overwritten without any harm done to the actual monitor.
Watch the videos for some examples you can do with it!
I hope you get a good impression what WozMon can do and how helpful it can be if you still code on real hardware. If you like it, please vote for it in the ABBUC software competition. Thank you!
