(26 May 2017) Afghan Muslims on Friday prepared for Saturday's beginning of the holy month of Ramadan, a time marked by intense prayer, dawn-to-dusk fasting and nightly feasts.
Religious scholar Assadullah led Friday prayers at one of Kabul's mosques, calling on all parties to give up fighting and solve their issue through negotiations and dialogue.
In past years, Taliban insurgents intensified their attacks in Afghanistan during Ramadan.
Meanwhile, on the streets of the capital, people called on shopkeepers to bring down the prices of food during the holy month, and said they hoped for peace.
