Andrea Cadena is a geologist turned petrophysicist. She is currently a Staff Petrophysicist at Murphy Oil in Houston, TX with over ten years of industry experience. In our conversation, Andrea explains what a petrophysicist does and why it is such an important role. Andrea also shares her geoscience journey from Colombia to the United States and some valuable advice every aspiring geoscientist should consider.
Petrophysicists study and analyse the chemical and physical properties of oil and gas deposits, including the surrounding rocks and soil. They collect and examine data about these reservoirs including, rock density, pore pressure, electrical and acoustic properties of the rock and the level of radioactivity.
