STORYLINE:
Hawaii residents were assessing the damage from wildfires in Maui on Thursday as the death toll from the disaster rose to 111.

In historic Lahaina, resident Kapali Keahi said that many people in her community "haven’t even had time to grieve."

“We definitely need some time to think, to ponder upon, you know, the next couple weeks and what we need to do to stay strong for the long haul,” he said.

Another resident, Corrine Hussey Nobriga, said she had mixed emotions in the aftermath of the fire.

“The families are healing, you know, and it’s a touchy situation right now, because for us as a community, of course we’re happy that we have our homes. But our heart aches, because that's our other neighbors and our families,” she said.

The cause of the wildfires, the deadliest in the U.S. in more than a century, is under investigation.
