How to set the idle current aka bias on a VTA ST120 tube amplifier.
This may look like an old Dynaco / Dynakit ST70 amplifier and that’s because it shares the same style chassis. This one is stainless steel and a little thicker guage.
The VTA ST120 uses larger transformers which work with higher powered tubes such as the 6550, KT88, and even KT120.
It’s essentially a stereo version of the Mark III.
The exposed circuit board is the input driver stage and has been optimized for individual power tube biasing and the use of 12AU7 dual triodes.
This kit can be found at tubes4hifi.com
EDIT: At 5:52 I say “point 400 miliamps but meant just 400mA”
Also not shown is there’s a separate bias test point pin hole for each power tube. Two on the left and two on the right.
