WMD Overseer vs WMD SCLPL for DJ Style Low-Cut/Hi-Pass Filtering On the Master

Описание: Description- I wanted to gain some additional hp for the incoming Piston Honda set up in the rack and I wondered if the WMD SCLPL could work as a CV controllable Hi-Pass filter on the master. I was using the WMD 4tten to control the filter on the WMD Overseer before, and after thinking about it for a while I thought let’s see if the SCLPL can do the job.

Initially, I didn’t think it was going to work because when I cut the lows the mix lost energy. To compensate for this you need to add a resonant peak to your hi-pass filter. I tried boosting the Q and it wasn’t giving me that resonant bump I was looking for. After a little bit of thought, I just tried adding a little bump with another one of the Qs on the SCLPL. It worked and I could control the exact amount and control the frequency independently of the low cut. This is actually more powerful than the Overseer in that regard.

Another added bonus was that when the EQ is engaged or bypassed, there is no click. This is in contrast to the Overseer where you have to time the bypass precisely in time to try to avoid the click. This happens because of some technically analog circuitry stuff, but basically, the SCLPL doesn’t have that problem probably because it was easy to implement code to delay the engage or bypass at the zero-crossing.

I’m so happy that this worked because I only used the low-cut portion of the Overseer filter. Now I have an additional 4hp to make room and also I got the added bonus of no clicks.

If I felt like the TriTones didn’t add mojo to the sound I would also be able to take them out and just dial in a smile curve on the initial preset of the SCLPL too to gain an additional 12hp.

Overall, I would say if you only need a low cut for your master EQ, SCLPL is the way to go. If you need the additional features Overseer has to offer then it will of course be the better choice! Cheers friends!
