STORYLINE

The Hindu festival of Dashain is traditionally the happiest and holiest time of year in the Kingdom of Nepal. Nepalese of all castes and creeds pay homage to the Goddess Durga during two weeks of temple visits, feasting and animal sacrifices symbolising the victory of good over evil. This year, the Dashain celebrations have served a timely purpose, distracting Nepalis from a six-year civil war that has claimed more than seven thousand lives, and from the political turmoil that threatens to engulf the nation.
