The Denmark Tavern and Hotel was erected in the 1780s, and is one of the few remaining riverside buildings from the time of the Danish settlement in Serampore (1755-1845). The building was used until recently by the West Bengal Police, but it fell in to ruin. Now the National Museum of Denmark and Government of West Bengal collaborate on reviving the ruined building to become a pleasant riverfront coffeehouse for Serampore’s citizens and visitors.
