#breakingnews | The Supreme Court ruled that Governors cannot withhold state bills indefinitely, but also made it clear that the judiciary cannot prescribe fixed timelines for granting assent, saying doing so would violate the doctrine of separation of powers.
Delivering its advisory opinion on the Presidential Reference, the Court rejected the idea of “deemed assent," holding that automatically treating a bill as approved after a certain period is contrary to the Constitution’s design and undermines legislative checks and balances.
