Supreme Court SIR Judgment Impact on Voters is now one of the most important election-law issues after the decision in Association for Democratic Reforms and Ors. v. Election Commission of India, W.P.(C) No. 640/2025 and connected cases.

On 27 May 2026, the Supreme Court upheld the power of the Election Commission of India to conduct the Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls, commonly known as SIR. The Bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi held that the ECI may undertake SIR under Article 324 of the Constitution, read with Section 21(3) of the Representation of the People Act, 1950 and the applicable electoral-roll framework.
