Foreigners Take A JEEPNEY For The First Time in Manila, Philippines!

Описание: During our first visit to the Philippines in May 2024, we were fascinated by the large steel buses we saw everywhere (we later found out they were called "jeepneys").

Now that we know what they are, for those of you who don't, a jeepney is a colorful and iconic Filipino public transport vehicle, known for its unique design and vibrant artwork. It's a cost-effective, open-air ride that can carry many passengers, often customized with local flair. Popular in the Philippines, jeepneys are a symbol of the country’s culture and heritage. They’re big, loud, and look SO cool. We didn’t get a chance to ride one during our first visit, but we vowed that when we came back, we would get on one.

One afternoon in Manila, with not much to do, we decided that today would be the day to finally hop on a jeepney. We stood around for a while, almost stalling. There was something intimidating about stepping into the unknown—we had no idea how it worked, where it went, or the cost.
When we finally plucked up the courage, we were greeted by smiling Filipino faces who were more than happy to help and even taught us the phrase “bayad po.”

If you’re ever in the Philippines, we highly recommend using this mode of transport. It costs only ₱13 and moves through traffic at the same speed as a Grab.
