U.S. President Donald J. Trump has confirmed that the United States is carrying out what he described as “major combat operations in Iran.”

In video remarks posted on his official social media account (@realDonaldTrump), Trump said the objective of the operations is to defend Americans by eliminating what he called imminent threats from the Iranian regime. He described the Iranian leadership as responsible for “mass terror” and said the United States would no longer tolerate it.

Trump also reiterated that it has long been U.S. policy, particularly under his administration, that Iran must never obtain a nuclear weapon.
