I will be showing you how to create these delightful surprise ornaments for your tree.

In the Victorian era, Christmas trees were commonly decorated with fruits, toys, paper chains and nuts. During the holiday season, walnuts were decorated in gold foil and tied with a red ribbon and hung in the tree. Inside the emptied shells, would be prizes, trinkets and messages! This style of ornamental gift is hang on the tree until New Year's Day. In the new year the walnut shell would be cracked to reveal the contents.

To make the gold walnut Christmas ornaments, you will need
a. Whole walnuts
b. Metallic Gold paint – I have two shades of metallic gold from Deco Arts to try out. One is called Anitque Bass and the other is called Spun Gold. This may help you pick your preferred shade of gold.
c. Red ribbon that will be used to hang the walnut
d. String or ribbon to tie up the messages
e. Glue gun & glue stick
f. Paper to write your messages
g. Scissor
h. Paint brush
i. Paring knife
j. Paper towel
k. Tea towel
l. Cutting board
m. Tinsel to add to top of walnut , this is optional
